Privacy Policy
Last Updated: September 29, 2026
National Charity League Los Angeles (“NCLLA,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) is a nonprofit organization that brings mothers and daughters together through community service, leadership development, and shared experiences. We respect the privacy of our members, their families, donors, and visitors, and we handle personal information with care.
This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use and share it, and the choices you have. It applies to information collected through our public website at nclla.org, our member portal at members.nclla.org, our online forms and email communications, and in-person activities such as meetings, events, and the NCLLA Thrift Shop (together, the “Services”).
By using the Services, you acknowledge the practices described in this Policy. If you do not agree with them, please do not use the Services.

- Content you share, such as messages to us, posts on member message boards or group pages, and photos or other materials you submit.
Information Collected Automatically
When you visit the Services, we and our service providers may automatically collect technical information, such as your IP address, browser type, device type, operating system, referring website, pages viewed, and the dates and times of your visits. Much of this is collected through cookies and similar technologies, described in Section 4.
Information From Other Sources
We may receive information about you from philanthropy partners confirming volunteer participation, from members who refer you to NCLLA, and from social media platforms when you interact with our pages there.
Photos and Video
We may take photos and video at meetings, service events, and other activities. See Section 5 for how we handle images of minors and Section 7 for how to opt out.
2. How We Use Information
We use personal information to carry out NCLLA’s mission and operate the Services, including to:
- Respond to inquiries and process membership interest and applications.
- Administer membership, including rosters, class groups, dues, service hour tracking, requirement progress, and leadership roles.
- Operate the member portal, including member profiles, group pages, message boards, and the member directory.
- Plan and coordinate meetings, events, and philanthropy shifts with our partner organizations.
- Send newsletters, announcements, reminders, and fundraising communications.
- Process dues, fees, and donations, and provide donation acknowledgments.
- Operate the NCLLA Thrift Shop.
- Feature photos and stories in our newsletters, website, and social media, subject to the choices described in Sections 5 and 7.
- Maintain the security of the Services, prevent fraud and misuse, and fix technical problems.
- Understand how the Services are used so we can improve them.
- Meet our legal, tax, and nonprofit reporting obligations and enforce our bylaws and policies.
We do not use personal information for purposes materially different from those described here without notifying you and, where required, getting your consent.
3. How We Share Information
We do not sell, rent, or trade personal information, including member and donor lists. We do not share personal information with third parties for their own marketing purposes. We share information only as described below.
With Other Members
Member directory and group page information is visible only to logged-in NCLLA members. Members may use directory information only for NCLLA purposes and not for commercial solicitation.
With Service Providers
We use trusted vendors to host our website and member portal, send email, process payments, provide analytics, and support our IT systems. They may use personal information only to provide services to NCLLA.
With Philanthropy Partners
We share limited information, such as names of volunteers scheduled for a shift, when needed for check-in, coordination, or safety.
For Legal and Safety Reasons
We may disclose information if required by law or legal process, or when we believe in good faith that disclosure is necessary to protect the rights, property, or safety of NCLLA, our members, or others.
In an Organizational Change
If NCLLA merges, reorganizes, or dissolves, information may be transferred as part of that process, consistent with applicable nonprofit law and this Policy.
With Your Consent
We may share information for other purposes when you direct us to or agree to it.
4. Cookies, Analytics, and Tracking
Cookies are small files stored on your device. We use them to keep the Services working and to understand how they are used.
Essential Cookies
Essential cookies keep you logged in to the member portal, remember your preferences, and help protect the site from abuse. The Services may not work properly without them.
Analytics Cookies
Analytics cookies help us understand how visitors use our website. We use Google Analytics for this purpose. You can learn how Google uses this data at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites and opt out with the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.
Embedded Content
Embedded content from services such as Google Maps, YouTube, and Instagram may set their own cookies when you view or interact with it. Those providers’ privacy policies govern that data.
You can block or delete cookies through your browser settings. Blocking essential cookies may prevent you from logging in to the member portal.
Tracking Across Other Websites
Our analytics and embedded content providers may collect information about your online activity over time and across different websites. We do not allow third parties to use our Services to collect information for targeted advertising.
Do Not Track
Some browsers send a “Do Not Track” signal. Because there is no common standard for how to respond to these signals, our Services do not currently respond to them. Because we do not sell personal information or use it for targeted advertising, there is no sale or advertising use for such a signal to opt you out of.
5. Minors and Children’s Privacy
NCLLA’s programs include daughters in grades 7 through 12, most of whom are under 18. We take extra care with their information.
Parent Involvement
Information about a daughter is provided by, or collected with the involvement of, her mother or legal guardian, who holds the NCLLA membership. Daughter accounts on the member portal are created only with the consent of the member parent.
Children Under 13
Our public website is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information directly from a child under 13 without a parent’s consent. If we learn that we have done so, we will delete it.
Parent Rights
A member parent may review, correct, or request deletion of her daughter’s information by contacting us (see Section 9). Some records, such as service hour history, may need to be kept while the family remains a member.
Photos of Minors
We do not publish a minor’s full name alongside her photo on our public website or social media. Parents may opt their daughter out of photos being published at any time (see Section 7).
Removal of Content Posted by California Minors
If you are a California resident under 18 and a registered user of our member portal, you may ask us to remove content or information you posted. To do so, email us at [email protected] and describe the content and where it appears.
We will remove it or make it invisible to other users, as described in California Business and Professions Code Section 22581. Please note that removal does not guarantee complete deletion. For example, content may have been copied or reposted by others, and we may keep information where the law requires or permits it.
6. Data Security and Retention
Security
We use reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards to protect personal information. These include encrypted (HTTPS) connections, password-protected member accounts, role-based access so volunteers see only the member data their role requires, and reputable hosting and payment providers.
No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security. Please keep your member portal password confidential and let us know right away if you believe your account has been compromised.
If a security incident affects your personal information, we will notify you as required by applicable law, including California Civil Code Section 1798.82.
Retention
We keep personal information only as long as needed for the purposes described in this Policy, including:
- Membership records: while the family is a member, and afterward as needed to maintain alumni and historical records.
- Financial and donation records: for the period required by tax and nonprofit recordkeeping laws, generally [seven] years.
- Inquiries that do not lead to membership: up to [two] years, unless you ask us to delete them sooner.
When information is no longer needed, we delete it or de-identify it.
7. Your Choices and Requests
Update Your Profile
Members can review and update most profile information by logging in to the member portal.
Email Preferences
You can unsubscribe from newsletters and fundraising emails using the link in any such email. Members will still receive essential membership communications, such as dues notices, requirement reminders, and account messages.
Photos
You may ask us not to publish photos of you or your daughter by contacting us. We will honor the request going forward and remove existing images from our website and social media where reasonably possible.
Directory Visibility
Members may ask us to limit which of their contact details appear in the member directory.
Access, Correction, and Deletion Requests
You may ask us to:
- Tell you what personal information we hold about you or your minor daughter.
- Correct information that is inaccurate.
- Delete your information, or your minor daughter’s information.
To make a request, email [email protected] or write to us at the address in Section 9.
We will verify your identity before acting on a request, and we will respond within 45 days. We may keep certain information where the law requires it or where it is needed for legitimate records, such as donation receipts, financial records, and dues history. We will not treat you differently for making a request.
8. California Privacy Rights
NCLLA is based in California, and most of our members live here. This section summarizes how California privacy laws apply to us.
California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA)
The CCPA, as amended by the California Privacy Rights Act and enforced by the California Privacy Protection Agency, applies to for-profit businesses. As a nonprofit organization, NCLLA is not a “business” under the CCPA.
Even so, we voluntarily honor the access, correction, and deletion requests described in Section 7, and we do not sell or share personal information for targeted advertising.
California Online Privacy Protection Act (CalOPPA)
This Policy describes the categories of personal information we collect (Section 1), the categories of third parties we share it with (Section 3), how you can review and correct your information (Section 7), how we respond to Do Not Track signals (Section 4), and how we notify you of changes (Section 9).
The table below summarizes these categories.

California “Shine the Light” Law
California Civil Code Section 1798.83 lets California residents ask whether a business has shared their personal information with third parties for those third parties’ direct marketing purposes. NCLLA does not share personal information with third parties for their direct marketing purposes.
California Minors
California residents under 18 who use our member portal may request removal of content they posted, as described in Section 5.
9. Other Terms and Contact Information

The Services may link to websites we do not operate, such as philanthropy partners, schools, social media, and payment pages. We are not responsible for their privacy practices, and we encourage you to read their privacy policies.

We may update this Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the “Last Updated” date at the top of this page.
