School’s Mission

The oldest, all-gender, K–12 independent day school in Los Angeles, The Buckley School is located on 18 beautiful acres in the foothills of the Santa Monica Mountains in Sherman Oaks, California. Buckley students thrive in a community that is both deeply supportive and academically challenging. Dedicated teachers guide each student to discover their potential and purpose. Learning to lead lives filled with joy and meaning is essential to our mission and lies at the heart of everything we do.

At Buckley, we connect rigorous academics, award-winning arts, competitive athletics, and moral character development through our Portrait of a Graduate, Architect of the Future. Students are prepared to become Creative Thinkers, Resilient Explorers, Dynamic Storytellers, Inclusive Leaders, and True Friends. They leave our campus ready for college and the future, eager to lead lives of impact and integrity.

We’re large enough to have it all and small enough for you to do it all. We are all about the “and.” Students can be baseball players AND captains of the robotics team, write for the school newspaper AND star in the musical, start a club AND star in the dance show AND run for student council.

Because of this “just right” size, every student is known—and that empowers them to take meaningful risks, explore deeply, and stand confidently. At Buckley, you’re part of something bigger: a diverse, inclusive community where you belong, you grow, and you shape the future.
